Giving a medal to one person

How to send a thank-you medal to one person, check it as you type, and what happens when you press Send medal.

Sometimes you want to thank one person, right now: a volunteer at their leaving do, or a fundraiser the day they hit their target. The one-person form lets you write their medal, see it exactly as they will, and send it in under a minute.

Send a medal

  1. Go to Events and open your awards.
  2. On the award you want, choose Give a medal.
  3. Make sure the One person tab is selected.
  4. Fill in First name, and Last name if you'd like it on the medal (it's optional).
  5. Fill in Email. This is where the medal goes. For someone under 13, use a parent's or guardian's email.
  6. If you like, fill in Line on the medal, like "Raised £400" or "5 years volunteering". It can be up to 40 characters, and a counter shows how many you've used.
  7. If they're under 13, tick They're under 13.
  8. Check the medal under Their medal, beside the form (below it on a phone). It updates as you type.
  9. Choose Send medal.

Sending is your approval

There's no separate check for a single medal: pressing Send medal is you approving it, and it goes out straight away. So read the name, the line and the email address carefully before you press it. Emails can't be unsent.

When it's sent, you'll see Sent and a note like "Sam's medal is on its way to sam@example.org". The form clears, ready for the next person.

What they receive

Sam gets an email with the subject "A thank-you medal from" your charity's name. It opens "Thank you, Sam", says your charity has given them a medal to say thank you, with their line if you added one, and shows the medal. There are two buttons: Keep your medal and Share your medal.

Unless they're under 13, the medal also has its own page they can share, and a verify page that shows your charity gave it. See What your supporters get.

Checking it went

The medal appears under Given recently, on the award's page and on your awards page, with one of these:

Status What it means
On its way The medal is being made and sent.
Sent The email went out.
Email didn't arrive The email bounced. Check the address.
Made, not emailed The medal was made but no email was sent, for example while emails are switched off.

Medals for under-13s show a Private label and don't link to a public page.

If something's wrong

If the medal can't be sent, the form says "The medal wasn't sent" and what to fix, for example:

  • "Give their name, as it should appear on the medal."
  • "Give an email address for their medal."
  • "That email address doesn't look right. Use one like name@example.com."
  • "Keep the name to 60 characters, so it fits on the medal."
