Adding more awards, and the new year

How to add more awards alongside your first, each with its own design, and how awards carry into a new year.

Most charities thank people in more than one way. You might want a general "Thank you" medal, a "Volunteer of the year" medal and a "Fundraising hero" medal, each looking a little different. You can add as many awards as you like, and they carry on from one year to the next without you doing anything.

Add another award

  1. Go to Events and open your awards.
  2. Scroll to the box at the bottom, Add another award.
  3. Type the award's name, like "Volunteer of the year". It's shown at the top of the medal, so keep it short (up to 60 characters).
  4. Choose Add award.

The new award appears as its own card, with its own starter design, ready for Give a medal or Edit the design.

Each award has its own design

When you add an award, Breaktape makes a new design for it, named after the award, like "Volunteer of the year medal". It starts from the same starter design as your first award: round, with a star in the centre, the person's name and their line.

Change it with Edit the design on the award's card. Changing one award's design doesn't change the others. See Designing your thank-you medal.

Award names

Each award in your awards needs a different name. If you try to add one that's already there, you'll see "There's already an award called Volunteer of the year. Give this one a different name."

The new year

Awards run by the calendar year, from 1 January, UK time. The year is printed around the bottom of the medal, so a medal given in January should say the new year.

You don't need to set anything up for this. The first time anyone gives a medal in a new year (or uploads a list, or adds an award), Breaktape sets up that year's awards for you:

  • every award from last year is copied across, with the same name
  • each one keeps its design, so your medals look the same
  • the medal carries the new year

It doesn't matter which year's award you start from. If you choose Give a medal on an award in January, the medal is given in this year's copy of that award, with this year's year on it.

What you'll see on the page

Each award's card shows how many medals it has given this year, and how many in all, for example "12 given in 2027, 58 in all". Given recently shows the latest medals across your awards.

Medals given in earlier years don't change. They keep the year they were given in, and they stay in their holders' trophy cabinets for good.
