Designing your thank-you medal

How to change the look of an award's medal, show each person's line, and put THANK YOU in the centre.

Every award starts with a ready-made design, so you can give medals straight away. When you want it to feel like yours, with your colours, your logo in the centre or THANK YOU in big letters, you change it in the medal designer.

Open the designer

  1. Go to Events and open your awards.
  2. On the award, choose Edit the design.

You can also find every design under Medal designs. Each award has its own design, named after it, like "Thank you medal".

What you can change

  • Shape: round, shield or hexagon.
  • Ribbon and Accent: choose from the colour swatches. The accent colours the centre and the ring around the face.
  • Centre of the medal: a star (the starter design), text, or the person's initials. See below for THANK YOU.
  • Artwork: upload your own image to replace the centre, such as your logo. PNG or JPEG, square, 800 pixels or more, up to 2 MB.
  • Fields on the medal: tick a field to show it, move it up or down, and choose where it goes (Above the centre, Below the centre, Foot of the face or Around the bottom of the rim) and its size (Small, Medium or Large).
  • Sponsors: put a corporate partner on the ribbon, the foot of the face or the share images. See Corporate partners and sponsors.

Showing each person's line

The line you write for each person, like "Raised £400", is the field called Line on the medal (or amount raised). In the starter design it's switched on, below the centre, under their name. If you untick it, the line won't show on the medal itself, but it still appears in the email, on their medal page and on their share images.

The fields for Finish time, Overall position and Category and rank are for race medals. A thank-you medal has none of these, so leave them unticked.

Putting THANK YOU in the centre

On a thank-you medal, the text option for the centre shows the words THANK YOU. To use it:

  1. Under Centre of the medal, choose Distance, such as 26.2. (The label is written for race medals. On an award, it shows THANK YOU.)
  2. Check the preview.

If you've uploaded artwork, it replaces the centre. Choose Remove artwork to go back to the star or THANK YOU.

Preview and save

The preview on the right shows the medal with a sample person, "Their Name", with the line "Raised £400". Use the tabs to see the Medal and the Story, Square and Landscape share images. Tick Actual size to see it at full size.

Once you've given medals, Preview with lets you choose real ones, like the longest name, to check everything fits. The Name fit note tells you if a name is being squeezed.

When you're happy, choose Save version N. Medals already given keep the design they were made with. Your next medals use the new version.

Check it for real

Under Check it for real:

  • See the real medal draws it exactly as recipients will get it, from your last saved version.
  • Send a test emails a test medal to someone on your team.

Save first: the real medal and test emails use the saved design.

Good to know

  • Each award has its own design, so "Volunteer of the year" can look different from "Thank you".
  • Once a version has been used for medals, it's locked, and saving makes a new version. Nothing already sent changes.
  • Some labels in the designer, like "Finisher's name", are written for races. On your award they mean the person you're thanking.
