Checking a design and sending test medals

The preview in the medal builder is quick, but it's drawn in your browser. Before race day, check your design the way finishers will see it: drawn by the same system that makes real medals, and landing in a real inbox.

You'll find both checks in the Check it for real panel, under the preview on the design's page.

See the real medal

1. Save your design first. Both checks use your last saved version. If you have unsaved changes, the panel says You have changes that aren't saved.
2. Under Preview with, choose the finisher to check against. Start with the longest name.
3. Select See the real medal.

After a moment you'll see the medal exactly as finishers will get it, at 800 pixels wide. Change the design, save, and select Draw it again to compare.

Send a test medal

A test medal shows you how the medal looks in an inbox, on your phone and your laptop, before anything is real.

1. Save your design and choose a finisher under Preview with.
2. Under Send a test medal to, choose someone on your team. You're chosen to begin with.
3. Select Send a test.

When it's sent, you'll see Sent to and the address. Check that inbox, including the spam folder.

What a test medal is, and isn't

The test email's subject starts with [Test], and a banner at the top says it's a test from your organisation.

A test medal:

• shows your saved design with the name and result of the finisher you chose under Preview with
• goes only to people on your team, never to a finisher
• isn't signed, so it won't verify
• has no button to keep it, and doesn't appear in anyone's trophy cabinet
• isn't stored or published anywhere, and doesn't count as an issued medal
• doesn't lock your design, so you can keep changing it

It's a simpler email than the one finishers get, which also has Keep your medal and Share your medal buttons. The test is there so you can judge how the medal itself looks in an inbox.

If nothing was sent

• Nothing was sent: sending is switched off. Breaktape isn't sending emails at the moment, or the address is a test address. The medal shown in the panel is exactly what the test would have carried.
• Tests go to people on your team. Choose someone from the list. To send a test to a colleague, invite them to your team first.
• The email service didn't accept the test. Try again in a minute. If it keeps failing, contact support@breaktape.com.

Good to know

• Before any of this design's races have results, the preview uses a sample finisher. Once results are in, you can check against real finishers, such as the longest name and the race winner.
• When you release a race, you check a sample again on the release page, using real draft medals. That's your final check.
• Only admins and editors can send test medals.
