Breaktape for charities
How charities use Breaktape to thank volunteers, fundraisers and supporters with digital medals they keep for life.
Breaktape lets you give the people who support your charity a medal of their own: a personal image with their name on it, signed so anyone can check it's real, and theirs to keep and share for life. A good thank-you is remembered, and a medal people are proud of gets shown to their friends.
Two ways to use it
There are two ways to give medals, and you can use both.
Thank-you awards
Awards are for thanking individuals when there's no race day. A volunteer who has given five years, a fundraiser who hit their target, a supporter who did their own challenge. You can:
- give a medal to one person at a time, watching their medal update as you type
- upload a list of up to 500 people from a spreadsheet, check a sample, then release them together
Each medal can carry its own line, like "Raised £400" or "5 years volunteering".
To start, go to Events and choose Set up awards. See Setting up awards.
Medals for your own event
If you run a sponsored walk, a fun run or a challenge day, you can set it up as an event with its races, import your list of finishers and give everyone a finisher medal. Races don't need to be timed, and medals can show the amount each person raised.
To start, go to Events and choose Add an event. See Charity walks and challenge events.
Not sure which fits? Read Awards or an event: which to use.
What every medal gets
Whichever way you give it, each medal:
- is personal: their name, your award or event, the year, and their line if you add one
- arrives by email with a link to keep it and a link to share it
- has its own page they can share, unless they're under 13 or choose to keep it private
- is signed: a verify page confirms it's genuine and shows that your charity gave it
- is kept for life in their trophy cabinet, once they've kept it with a code sent to their email
Nothing goes out without you
No medal is public until someone on your team approves it. For a single award, pressing Send medal is that approval, so check the preview first. For a list or an event, the medals are made as drafts and you check a sample before you release them.
Who can do what
Admins and editors on your team can set up awards, give medals and release lists. Viewers and finance staff can see what's been sent but can't change anything. See Your team and account.
Good to know
- Medals for under-13s are always private and go to a parent or guardian. See Medals for under-13s.
- Your supporters don't need an account or a password to see their medal. Keeping it takes a 6-digit code sent to their email.
- You can add corporate partners and sponsors to your medals and medal pages. See Corporate partners and sponsors.
