What finishers get
What happens on the finisher's side once you release medals, from the email to their medal page, trophy cabinet, privacy choices and sharing.
When you release medals, each finisher gets a personalised medal made from their official result. It arrives by email, has its own page anyone can check, and is theirs to keep, share or hide. Knowing what they see helps you answer their questions and explain it to your sponsors.
The medal email
Each finisher with an email address gets one email from you, sent as "(your name) via Breaktape". For a finisher called Sam Okafor, it reads something like:
- subject: "Your Harbourside 10K medal"
- "Well done, Sam" and "You finished the 10K in 47:31. Here's your medal."
- your own message, if you've written one
- a picture of their medal
- two buttons: Keep your medal and Share your medal
The email has no adverts and no sponsor links. If a result is corrected later, they get a second email saying their medal has been updated. See How your medal emails look.
Their medal page
Every public medal has its own page on breaktape.com. It shows the medal, the finisher's name, time and race, any position or category, and a Verified medal link. Your sponsors appear under "Supported by". The address never changes, so a link shared today still works years from now.
Keeping the medal
- The finisher presses Keep your medal in the email.
- They see their medal and press Keep this medal.
- We send a 6-digit code to the address the medal went to. They enter it, and the medal is theirs.
There's no password. They can look at the medal and share it without keeping it, but keeping it puts it in their trophy cabinet for good. If someone forwards the email, the person they forwarded it to can look but can't keep it.
The trophy cabinet
The trophy cabinet holds every Breaktape medal a person has kept, from any organiser. They sign in with their email and a code, and can see each medal, share it, download images and change its privacy.
Privacy choices
For each medal, the finisher chooses:
- Public or Private. A private medal's page shows only a note that it's private.
- Hide my surname, so the page shows "Sam O." rather than the full name.
- Hide my time. Their position and category still show.
They can also delete a medal, which withdraws it and erases their details. See Privacy, data and erasure.
Sharing
From the email or their cabinet, finishers can share to WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn and X, post an Instagram story, copy a link, or download a story or square image. Each share carries its own tracked link, which is how your Analytics counts shares and visits.
Under-13s
Medals for children under 13 are always private. They never get a public page, can't be shared, and the child never gets an account. The adult who keeps the medal from the email holds it for the child in their own trophy cabinet. Medals for 13 to 17 year olds start private, and the finisher can choose to make theirs public. See Age policy and under-13s.
Good to know
- Wallet passes aren't available yet. The cabinet shows Apple Wallet and Google Wallet buttons, but passes arrive after the first events.
- Finishers with no email address still have a medal and a medal page, but nothing is sent to them.
- If a finisher asks where their medal is, check the run's failures list first. See Following delivery and fixing failed emails.
